We write you today to announce that plans for a Campus Sexual Violence & Sexual Harassment Peer Review Panel have been finalized.

Beginning in 2017, five-member panels, comprised of an undergraduate student, a graduate student, a member of the Berkeley staff, a faculty member and a senior administrator, will review all cases in which a faculty or staff member has been found to have violated the university’s sexual violence and sexual harassment policy, and it will provide guidance and advice to the Chancellor on proposed resolutions.

Both I and the members of my leadership team believe there is enormous value in understanding the staff perspective on, and soliciting ideas about a wide variety of issues, policies, and programs that impact the staff experience.

UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks today announced he will step down from his position once a successor is selected and in place. In a letter to the campus community, provided in full below, Chancellor Dirks said, “I have come to the personal decision that the time is right for me to step aside and allow someone else to take up the financial and institutional challenges ahead of us.”

Jason Valdry, a UC Irvine alum and director of technology, has been selected as the next Staff Advisor-Designate to the Regents and will begin his two-year term on July 1.

April 18, 2016

UC President Janet Napolitano sent a letter today (April 18, 2016) to the Joint Committee of the UC Administration and Academic Senate regarding the committee's April 4, 2016 report. The president formed the Joint Committee in October 2015 to review the university's processes and procedures for handling cases of sexual harassment and sexual violence involving faculty.
