Nicole Lowy and Patrick G. Allen are co-chairs for the Excellence in Management Committee. They will be hosting the 2023 Excellence in Management (EIM) Awards on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 to recognize and honor exemplary managers and supervisors who have led their teams and team members to meaningful accomplishments this past year.
This year’s EIM Awards theme is “Everyday Hero: Leading the Path to Excellence.” This highlights leaders who demonstrate and encourage mentorship, dignity, respect, and belonging.
Briefly describe your job/role at UC Berkeley:
Nicole Lowy currently works as the Department Manager for the Environmental Science, Policy, and Management Department. Patrick Allen works as a Policy Analyst for the Academic Senate.
How long has the nominee worked at Cal?
Nicole has been with Cal for 17 years. Patrick has been with Cal for 16.5 years.
What do you love about working at UC Berkeley and what sets you apart from your colleagues?
Building connections and community with other staff around campus. We are individuals who don’t want to be set apart from our colleagues. As we believe in belonging, collaboration, community, kindness, and lifting others up to make Berkeley a better place to work for all staff.
What tips would you pass on to other staff to thrive on campus?
Don’t be afraid to reach out for help and ask questions. Get connected with staff organizations like BSA in order to build your community and above all meet really cool people.
What can we find you doing on the weekends?
Nicole: Hiking and going to farmers markets.
Patrick: Hiking and working on my photography.
