Briefly describe your job/role at UC Berkeley:
I am the Associate Director of MPS Scholars in the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS). I am also one of the co-chairs for the Berkeley Staff Assembly (BSA).
How long has the nominee worked at Cal?
I have worked at Cal for 4 years.
What does the nominee love about working at UC Berkeley?
I love working with students! I’ve been inspired in some way by every student I’ve worked with. I see the talent, passion, and drive they have in their fields of study and I want to do everything in my power to help cultivate and support their aspirations.
Another reason I love working at UC Berkeley is that I have the opportunity to work with the dynamic and diverse staff community. In my work and through my involvement with the Berkeley Staff Assembly (BSA), I have gotten to collaborate and ideate with some of the brightest and most innovative people. I truly feel like I am part of a community.
What tip would the nominee pass on to other staff to thrive on campus?
I would encourage other staff members to build a network of support as you move through different stages of your career. Without the advice and wisdom of mentors, friends, and colleagues, I would not have been aware and taken advantage of many of the opportunities that have contributed to my professional development. In fact, if it wasn't for one of my mentors, I would have never ran for the Berkeley Staff Assembly Governing Council (BSA GC). Through the BSA GC, I have been able to develop critical professional skills such as project management and communication skills, all while working with an amazing and diverse team. Therefore, I highly encourage all staff to take an active role in the Berkeley Staff Assembly (BSA). This could be by serving on one of our six amazing committees, or by taking on a leadership role on the BSA GC. There are also opportunities for you to be recognized for your work through the BSA. This year, I had the pleasure of being the recipient of the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA) Outstanding Board Member Award!
What can we find the nominee doing on the weekends?
You can find me hanging out with loved ones, including my 3-year-old son, parents, sister, and close friends.
