Dear faculty and staff, On the heels of last month’s month’s engaging discussion with Vice Chancellor for Research Randy Katz, the Office of Communications and Public Affairs invites you to the semester’s fifth edition of Campus Conversations, our monthly series of meet-and-greet events with Berkeley leaders. On Wednesday, November 14, from noon to 1 p.m. in Alumni House, Vice Chancellor for University Development and Alumni Relations Julie Hooper - our campus’ fundraising chief - will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how fundraising works, talk about the role that philanthropy plays in the campus’ emerging financial model, and outline how we will protect our institution’s values and public ethos in the context of greater reliance on private sources of revenue. She will also speak about the magic that led to a record-breaking $590m in donations to campus last year, and how we intend to build on that success. As always, we’ll provide cookies, coffee, and tea. A Cal ID is required to attend this event. After next week’s session with Julie, our final event of the semester will feature Chancellor Carol Christ on December 12 in West Pauley Ballroom (please note the venue change).
