You Can Give Our Students a Leadership Opportunity

 Student Affairs

Please note, this message is for UC Berkeley Faculty & Staff who work with undergraduate students.

As you start the spring term, please welcome the hundreds of new undergraduate students who just completed January Golden Bear Orientation (GBO). Thanks to our dedicated GBO Student Leaders, these new undergraduates can navigate the campus with confidence.

We need more amazing student leaders for GBO 2019, when our new admits arrive to start this fall. If you know or work with an undergraduate who you believe would be a positive role model for UC Berkeley’s newly admitted undergraduates, nominate your student by February 11.

Being a Golden Bear Orientation Leader is a unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity, as some of our GBO Leaders can attest to:

“To me, this is one of the most important programs that a freshman experiences during orientation because it establishes the kind of culture that we expect at UC Berkeley.”
--Nate G., Senior

“Serving as a  GBO Leader helped refine my management and communication abilities. On a more personal level, I learned how to engage in active self-care. These are skills that I have continued to utilize in professional and personal settings, and I am grateful to New Student Services for providing me with that growth.”
--Shayasta J., Transfer Student

“At the end of GBO, some students pulled me aside to thank me for changing the way they thought college was doing to be like and that they would remember me forever. It was that sense of validation of what I had gone through that really assured me. I have GBO to thank for that because it allowed me to generate a sense of community and inclusion with the new students.”
--Paulina D., Junior

See our video for more student leader experiences. It just takes that one great nomination to make a difference. We hope you will help. Thank you! Go, Bears!

Sincerely,Catherine P. Koshland, Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education
Stephen C. Sutton, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
