You are invited - Panel on Free Speech Sept 8, 4-6pm

August 30, 2017

Dear Staff,

You are invited! On Friday, September 8th, Chancellor Christ will be moderating a panel on free speech. This will be an excellent opportunity for all of us to delve more deeply into a wide range of complex legal, ethical and policy issues when it comes to the freedom of expression granted to all of us by the U.S. Constitution. In her recent message to the campus, Chancellor Christ described a number of opportunities we will have this coming year to engage, as a community, for discussion and dialogue about free speech.

This special event was designed for the entire Cal community and will be held from 4-6pm in 145 Dwinelle Hallon Friday, September 8th. There is no cost for admission, all you need is your campus ID for entry. Seating is limited. For those not able to attend, the event will be recorded and available online afterwards with closed captioning (there will also be ASL interpreters at the event).

Besides Chancellor Christ, the panelists will include:

Erwin Chemerinsky
Berkeley Law Dean, Constitutional Law Scholar, and Founding Dean of UC Irvine School of Law

Steven Hayward
IGS Visiting Scholar, Columnist, Ronald Reagan Professor of Public Policy at Pepperdine University

Arlie R. Hochschild
Professor Emerita of Sociology, Writer

David Landreth
Associate Professor of English

john a. powell
