Dear campus community:

I am excited to announce the appointment of Olufemi “Femi” Ogundele as Berkeley’s new Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director of Undergraduate Admissions. He will start in this role on January 1, 2019.

Femi joins Berkeley with significant experience in domestic and international undergraduate admissions, and a track record of applying best practices in outreach and recruitment strategies, developing inclusive office environments, and advocating for underrepresented students. We are absolutely thrilled to have him on board.

Femi currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Diversity Outreach at Stanford University, where he provides vision and leadership for undergraduate admissions outreach initiatives targeting LGBTQ+, undocumented, disadvantaged and first-generation students. He has developed partnerships with national association s, foundations and organizations to search out the nation's most promising students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds in higher education. He is the Ivy+ co-chair of the Association of Black Admissions and Financial Aid Officers at the Ivy League and Sister Schools, and serves as teaching faculty for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Guiding the Way to Inclusion conference. He also presents on diversity and provides equity evaluation counsel to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program.

Prior to his post at Stanford, Femi served as the Associate Director of Diversity and Recruitment at Cornell University’s College of Engineering, where his recruiting initiatives resulted in an 8.7 percent increase in applications from African American students. Before that, he served as Assistant Director of Multicultural Recruitment at the University of Delaware. Femi has a master of science in communication from Ithaca Coll ege and a bachelor of science in journalism and public relations from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Silvia Marquez for continuing to serve as interim Director of Admissions until Femi joins us in January. She will support Femi in his transition into the position before returning to her Associate Director role in the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

Please join me in welcoming Femi to this new position. I look forward to working with him as we continue our work to shape future generations of Berkeley students.

Sincerely,
Stephen C. Sutton, Ed.D.
