While it might not feel like it today, summer is almost here and we have many events to show our appreciation of you, the staff that make everything possible at Berkeley. Please mark the week of June 10 to 14 on your calendar for Summer Staff Appreciation Week. Here’s what we have planned for you:
Monday, June 10: Keynote Presentation– Jeremy Adam Smith from The Greater Good Science Center will present, “Positive Thinking for Cranks & Pessimists”. Are you sick of people telling you to be happy? If so, Jeremy Adam Smith is on your wavelength. But as an editor for UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, he also knows about a lot of research that can improve your life, if you’re willing to give positive thinking a chance. He’ll explain the science of happiness—minus the happy talk. Catch it at Sibley Auditorium or streaming live online from 12 - 1pm.
Tuesday, June 11: Gardening for Health and Wellness - Take a moment to enjoy the outdoors by joining Be Well at Work and campus partners in creating a new wellness garden here on campus. Free kneeling pads and seeds for participants. Outside of Li Ka Shing, Mulford, Morgan and Genetics & Plant Biology from 11:30am - 1:30pm.
Wednesday, June 12: Summerfest! It’s back - celebrating the accomplishments of our exceptional staff with great food, fun giveaways and awesome entertainment. More details at summerfest.berkeley.edu. Note: we do need extra hands to help make Summerfest a huge success - volunteer now solo or with a group! For as little as an hour of your time, skip the lines, get the special ‘volunteer only’ Under Armour t-shirt and still get a great lunch. It’s all happening at West Crescent Lawn from 11am - 2pm.
Friday, June 14: UC Walks- Join your campus colleagues for the 10th Annual UC Walks in celebration of Staff Appreciation Week. Group walks will depart at 12:10pm from four campus locations to converge at Memorial Glade. Mark your calendar to join in the fun this year and commit to an energized 30-minute walk. If you or someone you know has attended all previous nine UC Walks, we want to hear from you! Please send an email to Cori Evans at firstname.lastname@example.org to tell us your story, and whether you have collected every T-shirt. Join in the fun from 12:10 - 1pm - Register now and choose your starting location.
I do hope to see you at one or all of these events!
With thanks and appreciation for all that you do,
Jo Mackness, Interim AVC-HR
