#ShutDownSTEM Strike - Wednesday, June 10

June 9, 2020

 Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education

Dear VCUE Colleagues,

Many of you are aware that a call for a #ShutDownSTEM strike has been circulating for tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10. I am writing to reaffirm the rights of everyone in our community to exercise your rights of free speech and expression.

Our community is grappling with long-standing issues of race and racism, in society, academia, and our university and Division. I want to encourage all of us to devote time—whether tomorrow or in the days, weeks, and months ahead—to deepen our education, self-reflection, and conversations on race and racism.

This list of resources may be helpful if you are looking for ideas. As you read and discuss, please consider the actions we take as individuals, and in our roles as staff, faculty, and administrators to seek lasting change on our campus and broader society.

Best,

Cathy Koshland
Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education
