To all faculty and staff:

I am thrilled to announce that Russell Chung will be joining UC Berkeley as Chief Procurement Officer. Russ brings extensive experience in procurement, contract management, strategic sourcing, e-procurement, and purchasing team management in both corporate and higher education settings.

In his current role as Chief Procurement Officer at the City University of New York (CUNY), Russ oversees procurement activities serving more than a quarter million faculty, staff, and students on 24 campuses. Prior to leading procurement at CUNY, Russ served for five years as the Director of Purchasing for The Ohio State University in Columbus. His private sector experience includes global supply management for Kohler, Delphi, and General Motors corporations.

Procurement is of critical importance to Berkeley’s teaching and research enterprise and we are fortunate to have Russ’ experience and vision supporting our faculty, staff, and students. His insights with global supply chain logistics and higher education are a powerful combination that will enable him to add value to our efforts immediately. Additionally, Russ will represent Berkeley on the systemwide Procurement Leadership Council (PLC).

Russ is familiar with the UC system from a student perspective, having received his Bachelor of Arts from UCLA. A native of Hawaii, Russ has lived in California, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Japan, and Thailand over the course of his career.

I’d like to thank and acknowledge Stacey Templeman who has served superbly as Interim Chief Procurement Officer for the last two years. Stacey’s extensive knowledge of procurement at Berkeley, coupled with her solid leadership, was of tremendous value during a period of significant administrative change.

Russ and his family will be moving from New York to Berkeley in September and joining us on campus in early October. Please join me in welcoming Russ Chung to UC Berkeley.
