Reminder: Monday's (April 15th) Signature Initiatives Town Hall Meeting

April 12, 2019

 Vice Chancellor for Research

Dear Campus Community:

A reminder that Monday, April 15th will be the first of two town hall meetings to discuss the Signature Initiatives.

As background, this process began in Spring of 2018 when six topics were identified as part of the campus’ Strategic Plan. These topics became the campus’ Signature Initiatives for which working groups were convened to elaborate on how Berkeley should pursue these societal challenges to achieve significant impact over the next 5-10 years. Five working groups will present draft reports to the campus community for input.

Monday, April 15, 2019 | 10:00 - 11:30am | Sibley Auditorium

Draft Working Group Reports presented:

  • Environmental Change, Sustainability & Justice
  • Equality, Equity and Opportunity
  • Inclusive Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Science, Work and the Public Good

At Monday's town hall meeting, we’ll have opportunity to hear about the initiatives from working group leaders and engage in a moderated Q&A session.

Please visit the Signature Initiative website: https://vcresearch.berkeley.edu/signature-initiatives where you can download initiative reports.

For those who are unable to attend the session, we welcome your feedback via the form on the website. All feedback received by May 27th will be shared with working groups for consideration.

Later in April, we will hold the second town hall meeting:

Tuesday, April 23, 2019 | 3:00 - 4:30pm | Sibley Auditorium

Draft Working Group Reports presented:

  • Charting a New Course to Health & Wellbeing
  • Equality, Equity and Opportunity
  • The Future of Democracy

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Lisa Alvarez-Cohen
Vice Provost for Academic Planning

Randy Howard Katz
Vice Chancellor for Research
