December 11, 2019

 Chancellor's Office

Dear Campus Community,

We are writing to give you updates on the forthcoming 2020 year-long Celebration of 150 Years of Women at Berkeley (150W Celebration). In the past six months since the task force was formed, the celebration has garnered widespread enthusiasm and support from campus groups including the ASUC, the California Alumni Association, the Graduate Assembly, Cal Athletics, Cal Performances, the Academic Senate, the Library, and many other groups.

The first intercollegiate women’s basketball game was held on April 4, 1896 at the Armory in San Francisco between Stanford and Cal. Fittingly, the official start of the 150W Celebration will be the women’s basketball game between Cal and Stanford, to be held on Sunday, January 12, at 5pm at Haas Pavilion. Chancellor Carol Christ will be the honorary coach. UC Berkeley students are automatically eligible for free tickets We hope many students will be able to return early to campus and attend the game! In addition, the Cal Athletic Department is welcoming all our Faculty and Staff back to campus with 4 FREE TICKETS to the game:

  • Cal Women’s Basketball vs. Stanford on Sunday, January 12th at 5:00 pm

We request that you only pick-up tickets if you can personally use them. Please note that you will be required to show your Cal ID card in order to receive your tickets.

*Tickets are not eligible for exchange, post, or re-sale.

TICKET PICK-UP

Tickets will be available for pick-up at the Memorial Stadium Athletic Ticket Office on January 6th through January 10th from 9am to 4pm daily.

NOTE: Tickets must be picked-up as they will NOT be delivered electronically. If you cannot make the pick-up date and time, you can have someone else pick-up your requested tickets as long as they have your ID.

Haas Pavilion can seat 11,000 spectators. We hope you will join us in supporting our team and celebrating the start of the year.

Many other events and activities are planned throughout 2020. You will soon see banners with the 150W logo on central campus. The theme for Cal Day will be the 150W Celebration and every letter of admission this Spring will feature the 150W logo. A major campus-wide history project is also underway, led by Cathy Gallagher and Sheila Humphreys. This project encourages the community to explore the history of women, and gender diversity more broadly, at Berkeley. This rich history is full of tales of achievements, discrimination, and overcoming adversity. It is a history we hope the campus can learn from as it faces the challenges and opportunities ahead of us.

If you would like to participate in this effort, we encourage you to explore the 150W website:             https://150w.berkeley.edu/

This website presents details on other projects and events for the celebration. We encourage you to use the 150W logo in your email signatures, on websites, and on social media. If you wish to promote an event, please use the hashtag #BerkeleyWomen150.

Thanking you for your participation and contributions to our campus,

The Executive Committee for the 150W Celebration
Sharon Inkelas
La Dawn Duvall
