Help Our Undergraduate Students Find Their Why as GBO Leaders

February 7, 2020

 Division of Student Affairs

Dear faculty and staff -

As you start the spring term, please welcome the hundreds of new undergraduate students who just completed January Golden Bear Orientation (GBO). Thanks to our dedicated GBO Leaders, these new undergraduates can navigate the campus with confidence.

We need more amazing student leaders for GBO 2020, when our new undergraduate admits arrive to start this fall. If you know or work with an undergraduate who you believe would be a positive role model for UC Berkeley’s newly admitted undergraduates, nominate your student by February 10.

Being a Golden Bear Orientation Leader is a unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity, as some of our GBO Leaders can attest to:

“If you met me my first year at Cal, I was quiet, reserved, and hated speaking up in class. GBO not only boosted my self-confidence by allowing me to lead and take pride in myself and my identities, but gave me a network of support that has continued until today!”--Elena C., Senior“I was initially hesitant on applying to be an orientation leader, but it turned out to be the best decision I made at Cal. There is so much this experience can offer you and I truly believe no other opportunity can offer the personal growth that GBO can. I never imagined myself being an orientation leader, but now, I truly cannot imagine my college experience without it.”--Elbert M., Junior“Throughout my time in GBO, I have grown as a person, made lifelong friendships, and fo und my confidence as a leader. This all started when someone walked up to me holding out a flier and told me ‘You look like a leader!’.”--Marcus P., Junior

See our video for more student leader experiences. It just takes that one great nomination to make a difference. We hope you will help our undergraduate students find their why as a campus leader.

Sincerely,Catherine P. Koshland, Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education
Stephen C. Sutton, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
