Happy New Year!

August 27, 2019

 Chancellor's Office

Dear Campus Community,

With the start of instruction only two days away I want to offer a few, brief words of welcome to our new and returning students, and express my respect and appreciation for our extraordinary faculty and staff.
I treasure the sense of energy and possibility that marks the beginning of the fall semester. There is no better time of year in higher education and, to those of us who love Berkeley, no better place to experience it than here.

In the weeks ahead, I will have more to say about major developments and initiatives now unfolding on campus and the (much improved) state of our financial health. I will also, in a future message, write about how we as a community can together, preserve and protect Berkeley’s most fundamental values in an era of polarization and division.

For now, however, I want to welcome one and all, and wish you nothing but the best throughout the year to come. Go Bears!

Sincerely,
Carol Christ
Chancellor
