Please join us in making sure that Berkeley is a campus that votes.
On Tuesday, March 3, Californians will head to the polls to vote in the state’s presidential primary elections as well as weigh in on a number of state and local ballot measures. We encourage everyone who is eligible to exercise their right to vote. You can learn about the candidates and issues on the ballot in the nonpartisan voter education guide published by the California Secretary of State.
Student leaders and campus staff have been working hard to make it easy for you to vote. The ASUC Vote Coalition has developed a comprehensive website that provides information on polling locations, same day registration and conditional voting.
Polling places will be open for voting at Unit 1 and Unit 3 from 7:00AM-8:00PM on March 3 for students living in residence halls who have previously registered to vote. Alternatively, Alameda County voters can drop off their completed absentee ballots in the on-campus ballot drop box installed next to the A&E Building. If you live off campus and plan to vote in person, you can find your polling place on the Secretary of State website.
Our passionate student leaders are also finding ways to make voting fun! Next week, watch for get-out-the-vote events like the Dorm Storm on March 2 at Units 1, 2 and 3; and Party at the Polls on March 3 from10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sproul Plaza.
We would like to remind managers and supervisors that employees who do not have sufficient time to vote outside of working hours are allowed up to two hours at the beginning or end of their work day for voting.
We also ask that faculty members and others with teaching responsibilities be flexible with students who need to take time away from campus to vote.
Casting your ballot is an essential element of civic responsibility - be sure your voice is heard and go vote!
If you aren’t eligible to vote, you can still get involved by helping others get to their polling place, supporting candidates and initiatives you believe in through volunteering or promotion, and helping to explain or translate election materials for friends and family.
