Free Speech Commission Public Hearing, Friday, January 19

January 17, 2018

Dear campus community,

The campus Free Speech Commission will be holding its first public hearing on Friday, January 19 from 10:30 am to 12 noon in the ASUC Senate Chambers (fifth floor of Eshleman Hall). The Commission invites faculty, staff, and students to share their experiences of free speech-related events last September and their thoughts about how best to minimize the impact of future events without compromising free speech or public safety.

The Commission has reserved 11:15-11:45 for staff members working near Sproul Plaza. The other times (10:30-11:15 and 11:45-12:00) are unreserved. Depending on the number of speakers, the Commission may limit speaking time so everyone has an equal chance to be heard. If you cannot make this hearing, additional hearings will be held on the morning of Monday, February 5 and the afternoon of Friday, February 9.

If you prefer, you are also welcome to submit a statement in writing to the Commission at ucbpolicy@berkeley.edu.

Many thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Free Speech Commission Co-Chairs
Prudence L. Carter, Dean & Professor, Graduate School of Education, and
R. Jay Wallace, Judy Chandler Webb Distinguished Chair, Department of Philosophy
