EH&S Leadership Announcement

October 20, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that Pat Goff will return to the UC Berkeley Campus on December 1, 2017 as our head of Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S).

As Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Paul Alivisatos wrote when we launched the search, fostering a world-class safety culture and set of processes that ensure every member of our community goes home each day as healthy as when they arrived on campus is a strategic priority as well as a core Berkeley value. Charged with helping assure that Berkeley has a high-performing culture in this regard, the Office of Environment, Health & Safety provides guidance and services to the campus community that promote workplace safety and environmental stewardship.

As our next Executive Director of EH&S, Pat Goff will bring to this position a deep knowledge of UC Berkeley’s programs and community, as well as a strong record of leadership and managerial experience in a broad range of environment, health, and safety programs. His more than two decades of service to the University of California include five years as the Executive Director of UC Santa Cruz’s EH&S and Emergency Service offices and ten years here at Berkeley as an EH&S Associate Director and one year as Interim Director of the office. In addition to his EH&S experience, professional qualifications, and contributions to the national community of practice, Pat also has a background in mechanical engineering.

Please join me in welcoming Pat back to Berkeley and thanking the EH&S team--particularly Acting Director Brandon DeFrancisci--who provide outstanding leadership and critical services to our community.

Sincerely,

G. Steven Martin
Interim Vice Chancellor for Research
