April 2, 2019

 Division of Student Affairs

Dear campus community -

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff will be hosting events throughout the month that will raise awareness about sexual violence and sexual harassment, as well as provide spaces for healing and empowerment of survivors.

Coordinated annually by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, with assistance from anti-sexual assault organizations throughout the United States, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. To learn more about events on our campus, visit survivorsupport.berkeley.edu/SAAM or facebook.com/UCBSAAM. If you’re hosting an event that you’d like added to the calendar, please submit your event

Observances such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month also provide an opportunity to remind everyone of the important campus resources that are available.

  • The website of the Special Faculty Advisor to the Chancellor on Sexual Violence/Sexual Harassment (SVSH) provides a broad overview of campus prevention and response resources.
  • The campus website survivorsupport.berkeley.edu provides information about services and resources available to survivors and their allies.
  • The PATH to Care Center provides affirming, empowering, and confidential support for survivors and those who have experienced gendered violence, including: sexual harassment, dating and intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sexual exploitation. Advocates bring a non-judgmental, empathetic approach to exploring all options, rights, and resources. The PATH to Care Center also leads the campus in prevention efforts. Contact their office for a prevention consultation for your unit or department.
  • The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) oversees the institutional compliance with University policies prohibiting discrimination, including the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH). Part of this broad responsibility is responding to SVSH and other discrimination complaints and concerns from students, faculty, staff, and visitors. If you have questions about discrimination or harassment, please email ask_ophd@berkeley.edu, or call (510) 643-7985.
  • News and updates regarding Berkeley’s prevention and response efforts are available at sexualassault.berkeley.edu.

We encourage you to participate in the month’s activities. Together we can foster a culture that prioritizes respect and consent and creates a healthy and inspiring environment where violence in any form is not tolerated.
