3 Ways You Can Contribute to GBO

August 5, 2019

 Student Affairs

Dear colleagues -

Golden Bear Orientation (GBO) takes place this fall from August 20–27, with students moving into residence halls on August 20. During that time, you’ll notice thousands of new students participating in activities around campus and filling dining commons and cafés.

Here are three ways you can help welcome our new students, and their families and friends:

  1. Volunteer: GBO relies on staff and faculty volunteers to guide 9,500+ new students on campus this fall. There are many ways to contribute. Find out more about Golden Bear Orientation 2019, its events, and volunteer details on Wednesday, August 7, from 2–3:30 p.m. in LeConte 1

  2. Print a poster:  One easy way to welcome our students is by printing this poster and displaying it in your offices, halls, or bulletin boards.

  3. Be mindful of parking on Move-In Day, Tuesday, August 20 To ease congestion on August 20, campus leadership is asking department chairs and managers to review their business for that day and offer staff alternatives to traveling to campus, such as telecommuting or approving requested vacation days. Consider holding meetings, retreats, and other activities off-site that day. If you must come to campus, take public transportation, bike, or share rides. Campus parking will be very limited on Move-In Day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact New Student Services at nss@berkeley.edu, or visit the Golden Bear Orientation website
