2019 Martin Meyerson Faculty Research Lectures

March 4, 2019

 Chancellor's Office

Dear Campus Community,

The 2019 Martin Meyerson Faculty Research Lectures, a 106 year old campus tradition celebrating excellence in research at UC Berkeley, will take place Tuesday, March 19 and Tuesday, April 30.  The faculty honorees this year are:

Alison Gopnik
Professor of Psychology and Affiliate Professor of Philosophy
Life History and Learning: When (and Why) Children Are Better Learners than Both Adults and A.I.
Tuesday, March 19
Chevron Auditorium at International House, 2299 Piedmont Avenue.
Jill Banfield
Professor of Earth and Planetary Science, and Environmental Science, Policy, and Management
Mysteries of the Invisible World of Microbes
Tuesday, April 30
Sibley Auditorium, Bechtel Engineering Center

Both events are free and open to the public and take place from 4 to 5pm.

Every year since 1912, the Academic Senate has selected faculty members who are exceptionally distinguished for their scholarly research to serve as the Faculty Research Lecturers.  These public events provide a unique opportunity for the campus community to hear from the very people who are transforming knowledge at Berkeley and in our world. Past participants include many of Berkeley’s Nobel Prize winners and campus notables, including Ernest Lawrence, George Pimentel, Randy Schekman, and Jennifer Doudna, to name a few.

I hope that you will join us.
Sincerely,
Carol Christ
Chancellor
