Thank You for Doing the CalNet 2-Step

April 25, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our implementation of CalNet 2-Step verification for faculty and staff CalNet logins. To date, we have enrolled over 30,000 individuals in 2-Step since rollout officially began in October 2017.

We deeply appreciate the attention all of you have paid to the importance of this additional layer of protection for campus IT assets and for protecting your own personal information. Thank you for helping us reach this significant milestone and playing an important role in our ability to protect University resources.

CalNet 2-Step verification is just one of many tools in our security arsenal. Even with 2-Step in place, we still need our campus community to understand best practices for keeping private/personal information safe:

  • Protect your phone. Do not acknowledge a CalNet 2-Step push if you didn’t trigger it.
  • Secure your computer. Make use of the Remember Me option but protect access to your computer with a password and be sure to logout of websites before closing browser windows.
  • Use the preferred authentication: Duo Push. If you are using the Call Me or Passcode options to authenticate, we strongly recommend using Duo Push because it is quicker, easier, more secure, and cheaper than receiving text messages or phone calls.
