Take time to vote

Next Tuesday, November 6, people across the country will go to the polls to exercise their right to vote in the midterm elections. New to campus this year, Alameda County voters can drop off their completed absentee ballots in the official ballot drop box on campus installed next to the A&E Building (across from Sather Gate).

Managers and supervisors are reminded that employees who do not have sufficient time to vote outside of working hours are allowed up to two hours at the beginning or end of their work day for voting.

Faculty members and others with teaching responsibilities are asked to be flexible with students who need to take time away from campus to vote.

Car sharing companies such as Lyft and Uber are offering free rides to polling stations for those in need of transportation that day.

Today from noon-1 p.m. on Sproul Plaza, the History Department and the Office of Student Affairs are co-sponsoring a non-partisan rally to promote free speech and the importance of voting. The event will include four elders from the 1964 Free Speech movement who will talk about the origins of  the Free Speech movement and why it is important to exercise our right to vote. I (Chancellor Christ) am pleased to introduce that event.
