Student Technology Fund: Software Forum & Grant Applications Open

Dear campus community, Please participate in one or both of the following opportunities made possible by the Student Technology Fund

  1. Attend Student Technology Fund’s Software Public Forum to learn about student software offerings paid for by all graduate and undergraduate students’ compulsory Student Technology Fee. The Student Technology Fund enables the inclusion of student licensing in University contracts negotiated at scale.  Bring your questions for our largest software vendors (including Adobe, Microsoft, and LinkedIn Learning), the Student Technology Fund Committee, and UC Berkeley IT staff. Learn more about the forum will be 5:20 - 9:00 pm on Monday, February 24th, 2020, in ASUC Senate Chambers, 5th floor, Eshleman Hall.  You can learn more about it and other events here.

  2. Apply for a grant to enhance the student experience through technologyThe Student Technology Funds’s Spring 2020 Fast Track Grant Cycle awards grants up to $5K. The deadline to apply for a grant is 11:59 pm on Friday, February 21st, 2020. Learn more, then apply here.

GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Any student, staff or faculty member of the University of California, Berkeley is eligible to submit a proposal for consideration by the Student Technology Fund committee. Individual students must obtain a fiscal sponsor to administer awarded funds, such as a registered student group, ASUC, Graduate Assembly, academic department, or other functional unit.

ALLOWABLE COSTS
This fee, assessed at $51 per semester for seven years, provides funding to secure software licensing for students (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, MATLab, LinkedIn Learning). It also provides funding to support additional student technology services and initiatives. Fee funds are prohibited from subsidizing core information technology infrastructure. Intellectual property developed as a result of Student Technology Fund support is owned by the University.

  • Applications and Software Development

  • Commercial Software Licensing

  • Hardware and Technology Equipment Acquisition

  • Investigative and Planning Projects

  • Technology Events

  • Training, Support, and Access to Technology Programs 

APPLICATION AND REVIEW PROCESS

  • Before submitting a proposal, please review how to develop a strong proposal and consider getting support by attending a grant writing workshop, office hours, or by getting feedback from staff.

  • Proposals are due 11:59 pm, Friday, February 21st, 2020 via this application.

  • Proposals will be reviewed by the Student Technology Fund Committee February - April 2020, with the intent of announcing decisions in May 2020 and allocating funds in September 2020.
