 Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

The University of California, Berkeley has been notified that an individual infected with COVID-19 was present on campus in the last two weeks. You can view details of when and where exposures may have occurred on the Workplace Exposure dashboard.

If you were on campus property at the same worksite during this period, you might have been exposed to the virus. If you believe you have a COVID-19 related illness, please reach out to the UC Berkeley Occupational Health COVID-19 hotline at 510-332-7192, or see the UHS website for more information.

You are receiving this email notification in accordance with California Assembly Bill 685, which requires employers to notify employees of any potential workplace exposure within one day.

Note that AB 685 requires the campus to provide notice to all unions of any employee (including those not represented by a union) who tested positive for COVID-19 and who worked at campus facilities, and to provide the name, job title, date of onset of illness and location of the worksite. Employees may request that their names not be included in such notifications so long as such a request is voluntary and independent. If you do not want your identity to be disclosed in this union notification, you must complete this form.

As a University of California employee, you may be entitled to various benefits, including leave and workers’ compensation benefits through the University. Benefits may include hospital, surgical, and medical treatment, disability indemnity, and death benefits. For more information, please go to the COVID-19 Resource website

UC Berkeley prohibits retaliation against an employee for disclosing a positive COVID-19 test or diagnosis and provides COVID-19 related anti-retaliation and anti-discrimination protections for employees.

More information on UC Berkeley’s COVID-19 specific protocols and plans, including for the disinfection and safety of University worksites, as well as regular updates, is available on the campus coronavirus site.

For more information on COVID-19 cases and trends at UC Berkeley, please see the testing dashboard.

Please note that if you have been in close contact with a person known to have tested positive for COVID-19, and you were deemed potentially exposed, you will be notified through the standard contact tracing protocol.
