Next Week is Fall Staff Appreciation Week - Register Now for Events

October 26, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

Just a quick reminder that Fall Staff Appreciation Week is next week (Oct 30-Nov 3). Here are more details on what we have planned:

  • Monday 10/30: Appreciation Stations. 8:30am until we run out of coffee! Start off your week with free coffee courtesy of our campus partner Peet’s Coffee. Three stations will be setup at West Crescent, North Gate and Sather Gate. Giveaways and maybe a surprise guest will be hanging around (hint: #oskilovescalstaff).

  • Tuesday 10/31: Cal Walks - Trek ’n’ Treat. It’s that one day a year where coming to work in costume is absolutely fine! Bring yourself, your co-workers, or your entire department for a fun walk around campus to burn off those candy calories (costumes optional!). Register for this event online and join us at the Campanile at 12:10p. There will be prizes, including campus partner Brita water bottles, Sports Basement gift cards, a Fitbit Charge 2 and much more!

  • Thursday 11/2:  Faculty Lecture from world-renowned Dacher Keltner (Director of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center) who will speak on improving well-being, handling stress, showing gratitude and building resilience during these challenging timesSibley Auditorium 12 noon in person, or watch online (streaming link coming next week). Please register using our online form

Dacher Keltner, Ph.D, is a founder of the Greater Good Science Center and its director. More recently, he is the author of the best-selling book Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life, and a co-editor of the Greater Good anthology, The Compassionate Instinct.

Dacher is an outstanding speaker who has received several national research and teaching awards. Wired has rated the podcasts of his “Human Emotion” course as one of the five best academic podcasts in the country. He has twice presented his research to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as part of a continuing dialogue between the Dalai Lama and scientists, and his work is featured regularly in major media outlets, including The New York Times, CNN, and NPR. In 2008, the Utne Reader named him as one of 50 visionaries who are changing our world.

We look forward seeing you at some or all of these events next week!

With appreciation for all that you do,
