Dear Campus Community:

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, campus collaborators including D-Lab, Research IT, the Library, and the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society have partnered to share remote-access services and equip researchers for data analysis needs.

  • Data Analysis Training: Workshops from the D-Lab and Geospatial Innovation Facility have moved online. The UC Learning Center and LinkedIn Learning offer relevant training. UC Berkeley’s Foundations of Data Science class (Data 8) is available on edX for free (Parts 12, and 3).

  • General Data Support: Across all subject areas and disciplines, the campus has data services and tools to help you with your work. Consultation is available at every level. Get started with an email consultation.

  • Find and Access Data: Start here for an overview of currently available datasets, or use the Library’s databases providing access to data collections or consult with a subject librarian. If you are seeking to receive or access research data from a third party,IPIRA's Industry Alliances Office will assist you by reviewing and executing your data use agreement.

  • Compute on Data: For needs beyond your laptop, Berkeley faculty and researchers have remote access to high-performance computing infrastructure, Savio. Cloud computing, analytics environments, national resources such as NSF XSEDE, and remote access for specialized software and other resources can be accessed by emailing for support.

  • Manage and Publish Data: There is support to help you manage your active data, including data management plans such as the DMPTool. You can make your data reusable by publishing or sharing. You can also find best practices to document and manage data for better reproducibility, and information on legal rights for ethically using and publishing data.

For additional information and support, please reach out to our campus network of consultants via email. They will identify your need and direct you to appropriate resources. We hope you will consider taking advantage of these partnered services as you work remotely and wish you the best of health during these stressful times.
