Management Training Requirement for Internal Only Recruitments

May 8, 2020

 People & Culture Policy Team

Dear Colleagues,

As we continue to support the professional development and management of our employees, we are announcing that for all "internal UC Berkeley" recruitments for supervisory or managerial positions posted on or after July 1, 2020, applicants must have completed the Berkeley People Management: Grow Today online training series prior to applying

In addition, all managers and supervisors must complete Berkeley People Management: Grow Today by June 30, 2022 in order to be eligible for a merit increase on July 1, 2022 and in subsequent years. This training needs to be completed only one time to remain merit eligible for subsequent years. The training is already available and can be started anytime!  All new managers hired on January 1, 2022 or later must complete the training within their first six months of employment.

What is Berkeley People Management: Grow Today?
This fully online workshop series, designed specifically for the University of California, is beneficial for all staff, from seasoned people leaders to those desiring to become a manager, supervisor, or team lead. Seasoned people leaders use these content refreshers to enhance pertinent people management skills. Aspiring leaders use these quick learning experiences to gain a sense of the breadth of knowledge and depth of responsibility required for a campus leadership role. This series includes the core curriculum of the UC People Management Certificate and the full curriculum for the UC Implicit Bias Certificate. I have completed the training myself and found it incredibl y informative and useful.

The series includes 17 modules that require, in total, approximately 9 hours to complete. If you want to learn more about each module, go to the BPM Grow Today series and certificate website, and select the + sign next to the name of each workshop. From there, you can see the workshop's full description and learning objectives.

We look forward to your participation in this valuable program.

Thank you,

Eugene
