Invitation to Town Hall on Fall 2019 Campus Closures

January 16, 2020

 Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education

Dear Colleagues,

As the Provost announced in November, the Academic Senate, ASUC, and Graduate Assembly have formed an Instructional Resilience Task Force. This group will help develop a new approach for Berkeley to become much more resilient to power outages, air quality challenges, or other events that could disrupt ordinary instruction in the future.

To create a plan for Berkeley that works for students, faculty and staff, the Task Force wants to hear from you.

Please join us for a Town Hall listening session:

  • For faculty and staff:
    Tuesday, February 4 | 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Academic Innovation Studio, Dwinelle Hall Room 117

We are interested in hearing about issues you faced during the Fall 2019 power outages and associated campus closures. What worked? What didn’t work? What ideas do you have for making disruptions like this easier? Students: what communications worked well and where was communication lacking? Faculty and staff: what did you try out? What were barriers? What ideas did you hear from other colleagues?

The possibility of similar disruptions this fall is clear, while the need to prepare for larger scale events such as an earthquake remains. We would greatly value your feedback and suggestions.

If you are unable to attend a Town Hall, please share your experience with us via this short survey. Contact Kristine Lee Wilby <kristineleewilby@berkeley.edu> in the Provost’s office with any questions.

Thank you in advance for your engagement.

Best regards,

Co-chairs of the Task Force on Instructional Resilience

Oliver O’Reilly
Chair of the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate

Catherine P. Koshland
Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education
