Dear Colleagues,
As many of you know, recruiting for a new campus Chief Information Security Officer has been a challenging effort. We were fortunate to have a number of qualified and capable people in this latest applicant pool and I’m pleased to announce that Jeremy Rosenberg emerged as the successful candidate. Effective immediately, Jeremy is our new CISO.
Adequately protecting the campus IT environment is a daunting assignment and there is much work and coordination to do. We are in the throes of a major “hardening” effort which will significantly reduce information security risks for the University. We recently completed the initial two-factor-authentication (Cal-Net Two-step) deployment for faculty and staff and are beginning to look at expanding to students in the fall. We’re upgrading the campus firewall infrastructure to current technology and re-architecting to create differing segments of the network that can be protected at different levels (network segmentation). And we are hardening the campus Active Directory infrastructure.
Consequently, one of Jeremy’s top priorities will be to fill the open positions on the information security team as well as filling his old position on the identity management team to ensure we keep all these moving forward.
