Campus Conversations with Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer Rich Lyons

February 21, 2020

 Communications & Public Affairs

Dear faculty and staff,

I am pleased to invite you to the semester’s second edition of Campus Conversations, this time featuring UC Berkeley’s first-ever Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer, Rich Lyons. The discussion will take place this coming Monday, February 24, from noon to 1 p.m. in Alumni House.

The dean of the Haas School of Business from 2008 to 2018, Rich Lyons was named Berkeley’s inaugural chief innovation and entrepreneurship officer this past July. In this new role, he intends to build our campus into an unparalleled ecosystem for discovery and entrepreneurship, expanding and accelerating Berkeley’s efforts to support the development of groundbreaking products and the establishment of world-changing companies. At the same time, Lyons wants to bring the same spirit of creativity and innovation to how the campus operates and how we support our academic mission. On Monday, he’ll talk about his work thus far as well as highlight the Berkeley Changemaker Initiative, an effort to infuse the student experience with an ethos of thinking “beyond oneself.”

As always, we’ll have treats and light refreshments on hand. Please bring a Cal ID if you’d like to attend.

After this discussion, Campus Conversations will continue with several other very exciting events: On March 3, to celebrate 150 Years of Women at Berkeley, we will host a special conversation with University of California President Janet Napolitano (please note that this March event will take place in Sibley Auditorium). Then, on April 21, we will host Jennifer Chayes, our new associate provost of the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society and dean of the School of Information. Finally, on May 11, we’ll sit down with UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ.

We hope to see you next week!

Sincerely,

Diana Harvey

Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and Public Affairs
