Call for Proposals - Student Fee Grants (First Deadlines: October 7)

Dear colleagues,

This call for proposals includes grant information about the following Student Service Fee funds:

  • Big C Fund
  • Student Technology Fund (STF)
  • The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF)

Below is specific information about the funds and their deadlines. Allowable costs, how to apply, and review/selection processes vary by fund so we have provided links to more information.

Big Community Fee - Student Initiated Projects Fund

  • The Big C Student Initiated Projects Fund is a piece of the Big C Student Fee. The Big-C (Big Community) Fee Referendum expanded staffing (student and permanent), programs, and services, including funding for student initiated projects, offered through the Centers for Educational Justice & Community Engagement (EJCE) that serve the Berkeley community. EJCE serves all students by fostering communities, providing support and educational services to the campus as a whole. EJCE is African American Student Development (AASD) | Asian Pacific American Student Development (APASD) | Chicanx Latinx Student Development (CLSD) | Multicultural Community Center (MCC) | Native American Student Development (NASD) | Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq).
  • Student Initiated Projects Fund is allocated forstudent-initiated diversity, multicultural and equity projects and programs for graduate and undergraduate students and communities. This will support students' ability to create and lead programs that are relevant to their current interests and direct needs.
  • Info sessions will be held November-February 2018 and are required for applicants
  • Applications will be released in December 2018
  • Applications will be due in Mid-February 2019

Student Technology Fund (STF)

  • Any graduate or undergraduate student, faculty member, or staff member of the University of California, Berkeley, is eligible to submit a proposal for consideration.  The STF Committee supports proposals for technology services and tools that improve student life. Grants cannot subsidize the University’s core technology infrastructure, and intellectual property developed as a result of STF support is owned by the University.
  • Funding cycles include semesterly Fast Track opportunities for project funding of $5,000 or less and an annual Large Scale cycle for projects seeking over $5,000.  All applicants must secure a fiscal sponsor to administer awarded funds, such as a registered student group, academic department, or other functional unit.
  • Deadlines:
    • Fall Fast Track: October 8 proposals due
    • Large Scale: December 7 abstracts due and March 8 full invited proposals due
    • Spring Fast Track: February 18 proposals due

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF)

  • Students, faculty members, and/or staff members of the University of California, Berkeley are encouraged to submit a proposal for consideration by The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) Committee. TGIF funds projects that focus on environmental sustainability and environmental justice. Along with a grant application, individuals or groups of applicants must submit necessary project approvals and estimated metrics for their proposed project's sustainability impact on campus. TGIF hosts a fall mini-grant cycle for projects up to $5,000 and a larger spring grant cycle for projects $5,000 or above. The spring grant cycle has an optional early abstract deadline to receive feedback on your project idea, then a required final abstract deadline, upon which TGIF’s Committee will invite applicants to submit a final application for review.   • Fall Mini-grant Deadline: Friday, October 19th, 2018 by 5PM
  • Spring Grant Deadlines:
    • Early Abstracts: Friday, February 1st, 2019 by 5PM (optional)
    • Final Abstracts: Friday, March 1st, 2019 by 5PM
    • Final Applications: Friday, April 5th, 2019 by 5PM (Note: by invitation only)
