Berkeley Talks with Jamaican Novelist Marlon James - Wednesday, March 1st

February 7, 2017

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

As part of the 2016-17 season of Berkeley Talks, Cal Performances is honored to bring to campus Jamaican author Marlon James, whose monumental latest novel, A Brief History of Seven Killings, earned him the prestigious Man Booker Prize in 2015.

On Wednesday, March 1st at 8 p.m., James, praised by The New York Times for his "vaulting ambition and prodigious talent," will join UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks on stage in Zellerbach Hall for an engrossing discussion that will touch upon his writing process, as well as the themes that underlie his celebrated works of fiction: the colonial history of the Caribbean, race and gender in the US and UK, and hip-hop and reggae youth subcultures.

$5 tickets to this general admission event can be ordered online, by phone at (510) 642-9988, or through the Cal Performances Ticket Office at Zellerbach Hall.
