2018 Distinguished Teaching Award Nomination Deadline - October 11th

September 12, 2017

Dear Campus Colleagues,

The Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching is currently accepting nominations for the 2018 Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA), the highest teaching award on the Berkeley campus. Please note the approaching nomination deadline for the 2018 DTA is Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Guidelines and procedures can be found at http://teaching.berkeley.edu/programs/distinguished-teaching-award. If there are any questions about the DTA guidelines, procedures or application, please contact Oliver O’Reilly (oreilly@berkeley.edu), Chair of the Committee on Teaching, or Richard Freishtat (rfreishtat@berkeley.edu), staff representative to the Committee on Teaching.

Since 1959, The Distinguished Teaching Award has recognized UC Berkeley faculty for teaching that rises above and beyond the individual class to a sustained performance of excellence. This kind of teaching incites intellectual curiosity in students, inspires departmental colleagues, and makes students aware of significant relationships between the academy and the world at large.

The Distinguished Teaching Award Ceremony will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

While the nomination needs to be approved and submitted by the department chair, vice-chair for instruction, or other appropriate official, the nomination itself may be initiated by anyone in a department, including students. We strongly encourage you to nominate someone from your department for this prestigious award.

Sincerely,

Catherine P. Koshland
Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education

Oliver O’Reilly
Chair, Committee on Teaching
