Mentorship Program

The BSA Mentorship Program is a volunteer program, coordinated by the Career Development Committee (CDC), that pairs experienced campus staff members (mentors) with staff who are looking to develop themselves professionally (mentees). Participants have the opportunity to build connections, explore challenges, and better understand the Berkeley organizational culture.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The 2023 cycle runs from September 1 - May 31
Applications open in May

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

The Mentorship Program strives to include a wide range of participants from Berkeley’s diverse staff. If you are interested in participating but are currently ineligible, please contact us so that we can refer you to helpful mentorship resources!

We have expanded our eligibility effective Cycle 15 to remove eligibility restrictions so as to include ALL campus individuals, regardless of job classification/level/title code, so that we can promote and provide this opportunity to all those who wish to participate.

Mentees should be motivated to pursue professional development. Prospective mentees can be at ANY job classification, job level/experience, or in any job title code. Mentees can only participate in the Program once.

Mentors should be enthusiastic about contributing to the development of campus staff. Prospective mentors can be at ANY job classification, job level/experience, or in any job title code. Staff in the Continuing Educator classification are also eligible to participate as Mentors.

We recommend that potential mentees and mentors consult their department HR Partner to confirm their job classification prior to applying to the program.  You may also visit Berkeley Human Resources: Job Classifications for a general description of career categories & levels. To view descriptions of specific job standards, please visit the Berkeley Job Builder tool (link is external).

CYCLE 15 APPLICATION AND NOMINATION FORMS

The deadline for Mentee Applications and Mentor Nominations was Friday, June 16, 2023.

Applications for Cycle 15 have now closed. Keep an eye out for our campus-wide message next spring announcing the start of our next cycle. We'd love to have you participate in the future if it works for you!

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Mentors are identified by their colleagues through a campus-wide nomination process.
  • Mentors are nominated by their colleagues or volunteer themselves
  • Mentees apply to participate and receive guidance through the application and matching process
  • Participants meet and network, mentees contact mentors to set up informational interviews
  • After meeting, participants submit their match preferences & mutual matches are identified
  • Once matched, the mentor and mentee establish goals for the mentorship relationship
